What name can I register?
TWNIC domain name is divided into English Domain Names, Chinese Domain Names, Generic Chinese Domain Names, and various types. Their application requirements are listed below:
A. Specific English Domain Names
- "edu.tw": for registered educational and academic organizations. Authorize the Education Department to act for the application.
- "gov.tw": for government agencies established according to laws; authorize the Research Development Commission and Evaluation Commission, Executive Yuan to act for the application.
- "mil.tw": for national defense and military departments established according to laws; authorize the National Defense Department to act for the application.
- "com.tw": for legally registered companies or firms registered according to the commercial registration law and foreign companies registered according to the laws of their countries.
- "net.tw": for the license holders of the Type I Telecommunication Business or Network Construction (Installation), or the license holders of the Type II Telecommunication Business.
- "org.tw": A foundation or a non-profit organization registered under the laws of the Republic of China; A foreign non-profit organization registered under its national, state or federal laws, with particular needs in registering a domain name under org.tw approved by the Domain Name Committee of TWNIC .
- "idv.tw": for any natural person who may file application, however the identity of the applicant must be verified via email.
- "game.tw": requires no restriction to the applicant's qualification. The applicant for registration has to select the attributes on his/her own, however the identity of the applicant must be verified via email.
- "ebiz.tw": requires no restriction to the applicant's qualification. The applicant for registration has to select cpr144449003101 the attributes on his/her own, however the identity of the applicant must be verified via email.
- "club.tw": requires no restriction to the applicant's qualification. The applicant for registration has to select the attributes on his/her own. However, the identity of the applicant must be verified via email.
B. Specific Chinese Domain Names
When applying for a Chinese Domain Name, the applicant should register a corresponding Specific English Domain Names first, and one Specific English Domain Name can only apply for one corresponding Specific Chinese Domain Names. The principle of correspondence between English Domain Names and Chinese Domain Names is described as follows:
(1) "com.tw" corresponds to the application of .
(2) "org.tw" corresponds to the application of .
(3) "net.tw" corresponds to the application of .
C. Generic Chinese Domain Names
Any legally registered company, business association, corporation, or R.O.C. citizen may file the application, and foreign companies may register under the law of their country.
1. When applying to register or renew the registration of a domain name, the Applicant shall inform the Registrar of the particulars listed below and warrant the truthfulness thereof; the Applicant shall bear sole liability if any information provided by the Applicant is erroneous, false, or infringes any right or interest of a third party:
(1)The content of all information stated on the domain name registration application form is true, complete, and accurate.
(2) To the Applicant's knowledge, the domain name for which the Applicant applies for registration does not infringe any right or interest of a third party.
(3) The Applicant is not applying for registration of, and will not use, the domain name out of any improper purpose or in knowing violation of any laws or regulations.
The Registrant shall warrant that all information provided in the domain name registration application form, or as updated, is true, complete and accurate, when the related registration is renewed or when information as registered is updated. TWNIC and the Registrar shall have the right to cancel the domain name registration in accordance with Article 8 hereof in the event the Applicant breaches any provision in the preceding two Sections.
