The Republic of Suriname is a country in the northern part of South America. It was formerly a Dutch colony known as Dutch Guyana. It has an estimated population of approximately 492,000 people, and the official language is Dutch.
The Surinamese economy is largely dependent on the bauxite industry which accounts for a large portion of GDP and exportation.
