The Republic of Kiribati is an island nation in the Central Pacific Ocean composed of 32 atolls and one raised coral island. Although independent since 1979, Kiribati is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. It has an estimated population of approximately 100,000 people and the official languages are English and Gilbertese.
