.ngo is one of the new proposed generic top-level domains (gTLD). NGOs are non-governmental organizations that operate independently from any government and are not created to earn a profit. .ngo will hopefully be the future internet address of choice for all legitimate Charities, Not-For-Profits and NGOs. The dotNGO initiative is to improve security and potentially reduce online fraud in the Charitable and Non Governmental Organization sector by becoming a global hub for NGO's worldwide.
Only legitimate charities and NGOs would be able to register a .ngo domain name. This would provide a clear signal to potential donors that they are visiting a legitimate charitable or NGO site which could result in more donations.
