Eligibility Requirements

In order to register or renew a domain name the Applicant or Registrant must:

• be the intended beneficiary of the domain name registration; and
• satisfy both Criteria A and B, as described in this section; or
• where the domain name is an Exact Match to a film title satisfy Criteria A and C.

Criteria A – Member of Film Association or Body

The Applicant must be a member of at least one of the associations, bodies or unions listed in the document entitled ‘Associations, Bodies and Unions Eligible for Registration’ which may be updated by us from time to time. The list can be found here.

Criteria B – Closely Connected

The Applicant must be closely connected to the domain name. In line with the TLD’s mission and purpose, all Applicants must be able to demonstrate a close connection with the domain name being registered. By way of example and for the purposes of guidance only, the domain name may be:

• a name that includes, or is derived from, one or more words of:
• the Applicant’s organisation or personal name; or
• a good or service that the Applicant provides;
• an event that the Applicant organises; or
• a profession that the Applicant, or its employees, practice.

Where the domain name is the personal name or screen name of a person, such as an actor or actress, such may not be registered without that person’s express consent.

Criteria C – Rights Holder of a Film Title

Where the domain name being applied for is an Exact Match of a film title, then the Applicant must be the rights holder of the applied for film title. Such rights may include:

• Screenplay or a screenwriter’s rights;
• Production rights; and/or
• Distribution rights.

For the purpose of clarity, a service provider or agent of a film title rights holder shall not be considered eligible for the purposes of this policy.

Continuing Eligibility

Where the Registrant no longer meets the eligibility requirements of the TLD, it must contact its Registrar as soon as possible, and in any case no more than 14 calendar days after it becoming ineligible, request that the domain name be cancelled, locked, placed on hold, transferred or deleted.

Monitoring and review

During the lifecycle of the domain name the .FILM registry may take certain steps to substantiate whether a Registrant meets the requirements described in the .FILM policies. They may request that the Registrant provide information to demonstrate compliance and maintain its eligibility. If the registrant is found to not meet the eligibility requirements or the domain name is not consistent with the mission and purpose of .FILM your domain may be cancelled, locked or deleted with no refund given.

Some domain names may be permanently or temporarily reserved or restricted for registry operations, as premium domain names or to comply with ICANN requirements.

To comply with ICANN requirements, all two-character domains shall be initially reserved, however may be released in the future. In addition reserved names for a) International Olympic Committee, b) International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and c) Intergovernmental Organizations, for new gTLDs., are not available in accordance with ICANN.
